For the Socialist Government the solution to the conflict is:
More repression and more negation
Joseba Alvarez, responsible for the International relations of the Basque pro-independence left was arrested yesterday along with the spokeswoman of Askatasuna, Oihane Agirre, by order of the judge Baltasar Garzon, under the accusation of having participated in a demostration.
The Government of the PSOE tries to respond to the political conflict that is going on in the Basque Country, with more repression and "more Constitution". A Spanish Constitution, that was rejected by the ample majority of the Basque people in 1978, because it denies the right of this country to decide its political future. A Constitution that prevents the attainment of the pro-independence and socialist project that we defend.
This is the unique offer and proposal of the Socialists to solve the political conflict: more Constitution and more repression.
The arrest of Joseba Alvarez is in addition, an attack to the work that the Basque Pro-Independence left is doing at international level, in order to explain the causes of the political conflict that our country is suffering, and to look in support for the political and democratic solution of this conflict.
With this note, from the Basque Pro-Independence left, we want to denounce these arrests and the action of the Spanish Government, and to affirm that it will not prevent that we continue in our work in favor of a democratic scenario for the Basque Country where all the political projects are possible, and where this people can decide its political future free and democratically.
